Adoptive Family Services unites prospective
adoptive families with women who have
contacted us and wish to make an adoption plan.
In domestic adoptions, the birth parents are
usually involved in the process of selecting an
adoptive family. Prospective adoptive parents
prepare a dossier which will contain photos and
letters portraying the family to a birth mother.
Once your file is approved, a family can choose
between the "Agency Assisted" or "Self-Directed"
Program. With Agency Assisted, AFS will begin
advertising and pre-screening phone calls from
birth mothers. Training and support is available
to you.
Adoption Criteria: Singles and married couples
between the ages of 25 - 50. Married couples
must be married a minimum of two years.
Placement usually occurs between 9 - 18
months. The length of wait will be dependent on
your level of comfort with the degree of birth
mother contact and your flexibility with birth
parents' backgrounds.
